Doubt

Take Courage, It Is I. Don’t Be Afraid

Disciple: It’s a ghost! Another Disciple: A ghost? What will we do? Jesus: Be still. It is I. You have nothing to fear. Peter: Lord, if it is really You, then command me to meet You on the water. Jesus: Indeed, come. Peter stepped out of the boat onto the water and began walking toward Jesus. But when he remembered how strong the wind was, his courage caught in his throat and he began to sink. Peter: Master, save me! Immediately Jesus reached for Peter and caught him. Jesus: O you of little faith. Why did you doubt and dance back and forth between following Me and heeding fear? Then Jesus and Peter climbed in the boat together, and the wind became still. And the disciples worshiped Him. Disciples: Truly You are the Son of God. Matthew 14 The Voice

“Us: We can’t do it Lord, it is way too much for us. Jesus: Yes you can, I am right here. Give me what you have, I will multiply it, I will equip you and give you more than enough.” KimberlyMac

Fear Destabilizes Courage

We have courage, we just have to summon it. The willful mustering up of courage is short lived. Our enemy knows our fear button and he will push it and our courage is destabilized. We fall hard when our courage is bullied by our fear.

Fear Overrides Courage

The human condition naturally speculates and assumes. We think we know what we know by what we think, feel and see. Our knowing is never enough for us and fear overtakes us with waves of “what if” questions rising in our soul. We assume, we speculate, we presume and we make presuppositions and fear overrides our courage.

Fear Is Shut Down By Jesus

We have stepped out, we are sinking, what will we do? When we take our eyes off of Jesus and put them on our circumstances, we are deceived into thinking it is all about what we can do. It is not. Jesus is still there. If we call out to Him, He will shut down the fear as we focus on Him instead of the situation. There is more to the situation than meets the eye, that more is the power of Jesus.

Doubt Is A Menace

Jesus confronts the fear mankind with a command to be still. Jesus asks us to recognize Him. It is Me, you have nothing to fear. When we wholly-holy recognize Jesus and cling to Him, fear is stilled. But still Peter said: IF, if it is you. He still had doubt, even though the Lord identified Who He was and this doubt craftily will crush our faith at the most inopportune time, because doubt is a menace to our soul and will sink our faith

Doubt Sinks Our Faith

Jesus said come, so Peter courageously stepped out of the boat. Many times, I have done the same thing. Lord, is this You speaking to me, telling me to do this thing that is way above my courage level, way above my comfort level? I have stepped out, because I know God’s Voice and I have followed it. Yet I failed. I have failed too, just like Peter’s faith sank. Doubt sinks our faith.

“Courage is fear that has said its prayers and decided to go forward anyway. We are never going to enjoy stability, we are never going to enjoy spiritual maturity until we learn how to do what’s right when it feels wrong, and every time you do what’s right by a decision of your will using discipline and self-control to go beyond how you feel, the more painful it is in your flesh, the more you’re growing spiritually at that particular moment.” Joyce Meyer

Doubt Is A Shaky Platform

I stepped out on doubt, not on wholly-holy faith. Jesus did not have total access to my mind. When the walk towards Jesus’ Voice became hard, when the waves of adversity rose and became more than I could navigate, I gave access to the enemy’s voice of doubt and fear in my thoughts. I listened to the doubts the enemy spoke and I took my eyes off of Jesus and the enemy took the total access of my mind. I looked through the eyes of doubt, I saw through my worldly viewpoint, and my lack of Kingdom focus sank my faith, because doubt is a shaky platform and does not hold through the storms of our life.

Immediately, Doubt Was Stilled

I love the word. Immediately. Jesus immediately saved Peter from sinking in doubt when He cried out to Him for help. Jesus, response to doubt is so telling, He calls us “ye of little faith” and then He tells us the problem with our faith, “doubt”. We do so waiver, don’t we, between fear and followship. When we see Jesus do great things, we say: Truly, You are the Son of God, but then our faith waivers the first time we have to face things we can’t wrap our mind around. This is where the grow needs to occur, in our mind, we need to give Jesus total access to our mind. I pray it is so.

“There are times when God leaves huge question marks as tools in our lives to stretch our faith.” Joyce Meyer
