Ego Can Be Used For The Glory Of God Or For The Corruption Of The Human Condition. Which Do You Choose?
“So the Pharisees and the chief priests called a special meeting of the High Council and said, “So what are we going to do about this man? Look at all the great miracles he’s performing! If we allow him to continue like this, everyone will believe in him. And the Romans will take action and destroy both our country and our people!” Now Caiaphas, the high priest that year, spoke up and said, “You don’t understand a thing! Don’t you realize we’d be much better off if this one man were to die for the people than for the whole nation to perish?” So from that day on, they were committed to killing Jesus.” John 11:47-50, 53
Corrupted Human Ego
The enemy of our soul wants to tap into our ego. It was corrupted human ego, leading to embittered human pride, that put an innocent man, Jesus, on a cross to die for something He did not do. In all actuality, the reality of truth seen in our history, we now know, He died for all of humanity stuck in our corrupted egos and human pride. This selfishness, which serves no power higher than self, runs amuck, straight into sin, as we human beings clamor, scratch and claw for power, position, titles, authority, and worldly pleasure, treasure and worth. Without God in our lives, our humanity is pure stank. We can all clearly see this in times such as these. We need to lay our egos at the foot of the cross of Jesus.
Jesus interrupted their argument, saying, “The kings and men of authority in this world rule oppressively over their subjects, claiming that they do it for the good of the people. They are obsessed with how others see them. But this is not your calling. You will lead by a different model. The greatest one among you will live as one called to serve others without honor. The greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one who has a servant heart. The leaders who are served are the most important in your eyes, but in the kingdom, it is the servants who lead. Am I not here with you as one who serves?”Luke 22:25-27 TPT
Serving Our Ego
Ego! We all want to be noticed and be important to others, this is part of our human ego and the enemy of our soul would like for us to serve our ego more than we serve God. In our circumstances we perceive thing’s and out of these assumptions, which are not truth, but a form of a lie. When we assume, we open the door of our minds to negative thinking, which then stirs our soul with negative emotions. Assumptions never stay little, they are like a little snowball pushed downward by “what if” questions and as we entertain these in our mind, our emotions darken and the enemy has our attitudes in a vice of disillusionment and anything goes from there as he dips back into the fears of past and brings those thoughts to our present speculative thoughts.
“In the Lord’s name, I tell you this. I warn you: Do not continue living like those who do not believe. Their thoughts are worth nothing. They do not understand. They know nothing, because they refuse to listen. So they cannot have the life that God gives. They have lost their feeling of shame. And they use their lives for doing evil. More and more they want to do all kinds of evil things. But the things you learned in Christ were not like this. I know that you heard about him, and you are in him; so you were taught the truth. Yes, the truth is in Jesus. You were taught to leave your old self—to stop living the evil way you lived before. That old self becomes worse and worse because people are fooled by the evil things they want to do. But you were taught to be made new in your hearts. You were taught to become a new person. That new person is made to be like God—made to be truly good and holy.” Ephesians 4:17-24 ICB
Why Me?
I learned when things are not going the way we expected and our ego is bruised, we should not nurse our ego with “Why Me” questions because the enemy will answer them with solutions which will not be the truth, but will be a subtle speculation, an untruth craftily designed to lead us away from obedience to God and godly character. Selflessness does not side with ego, but does run with humility, the opposite of pride, which feeds ego. Humility waits on God to reveal the truth.
“When you act with presumption, convinced that you’re right, don’t be surprised if you fall flat on your face! But humility leads to wisdom. Integrity will lead you to success, but treachery will destroy your dreams.” Proverbs 11:2-3 TPT
Got Confusion
In a situation where you feel confused by what is going on and you don’t understand why things are not going in a comfortable way for your ego, ask God to dispel the confusion with truth and wait for it, patiently endure the bruised ego until God gives you the understanding you need. God is always working in the unseen, purposely so, for our good. If there is confusion, this is a sure sign the enemy is messing with us, he is the author of confusion and the one who is messing with your ego. Don’t follow after the confusion, turn from it and fully face God, tap into peace, which Jesus is the author of, the Prince of peace. Ask for God’s help instead of reacting to your bruised ego, respond to God in prayer and wait on Him.
“God is not a God of confusion but a God of peace. This is true in all the churches of God’s people.”1 Corinthians 14:33 ICB
Assumptions Are Not Truth
Don’t lean into misunderstanding, acknowledge God in all your ways and He will direct your soul away from the messing of the enemy of your soul to trusting God with your ego. Keep your identity firmly anchored in Jesus, His way, truth and life, and your ego won’t matter, you will humbly respond to a bruised ego with selflessness and trust in God for resolve and revealing of the reality of truth. No assumption will ever lead to truth, but will cause your soul to drift into presupposition, speculation and lies that stir up your ego, entice your pride, and start the wheels of your attitude rolling downhill fast with out of control pride, ego, and selfishness that says: What about me?
“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all, for wisdom comes when you adore him with undivided devotion and avoid everything that’s wrong. Then you will find the healing refreshment your body and spirit long for.” Proverbs 3:5-8 TPT
Say No To Ego ~ YES To Jesus
A focus on ourself first, a living out of no power higher than self, this kind of behavior is the opposite of Jesus, Who gave up His Kingly rights, said no to His ego, and went to the cross for us, to save us. It is with His resurrected power that we can live above pride, not feeding our ego, but walking in the same selflessness that He had, a servant’s heart, whose pride went through the human crucible revealing the truth of meekness, power under control for the good of others. Jesus modeled a selflessness which put the interests of others before His personal ego and gain. Selflessness is a huge part of our Salvation that should not be denied, as Jesus put us before Himself, paying our sin debt, He died our death so we could live forever by His life-giving resurrection power. Say no to ego which feeds into a corrupted pride, say YES to Jesus, being positioned underneath the Rulership of His pure of heart kind of love, a love that creates an atmosphere in your soul which speaks of the truth of Jesus: Saved To Serve.
Jesus, knowing their thoughts, called them to his side and said, “Kings and those with great authority in this world rule oppressively over their subjects, like tyrants. But this is not your calling. You will lead by a completely different model. The greatest one among you will live as the one who is called to serve others, because the greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one with the heart of a servant. For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served but to serve and give his life in exchange for the salvation of many.” Matthew 20:25-28
