Golf Life Lessons

I do love the game of golf. That is a given. But, I also love how it teaches me so many life lessons. I am the type of person who doesn’t keep God out of anything in my life, He is always talking to me. So we had this conversation the other day about a long putt I needed to make. So, I hope you don’t mind me sharing it with you. Golf is good, God is great and together the two of them teach me much!

Now may the God who brought us peace by raising from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ so that he would be the Great Shepherd of his flock; and by the power of the blood of the eternal covenant may he work perfection into every part of you giving you all that you need to fulfill your destiny. And may he express through you all that is excellent and pleasing to him through your life-union with Jesus the Anointed One who is to receive all glory forever! Amen! Hebrews 13:20-21>

So Many Variables

Got a long putt? Feeling like you can’t make it? Never thought you would be in this position and need this putt to make a par? Your chip went long and now you are stuck with a long putt. Life Happens. So your mind starts evaluating and self talking… hmmmm… new course, never played it before, not sure of the variables that can occur, like the greens running fast or slow. Don’t have any experience to draw on. So we automatically think ourselves out of the putt by focusing on the negative. Too many variables, I can’t make it. Being unsure makes us think negatively about the putt and negative thinking will definitely be an over par shot. ASSumptions lead no where but to defeat. Truth is a better leader to a good attitude and to victory. The Truth is, never underestimate what God can do. Ask Him for help and believe that we can do all things through Christ Who equips and strengthens us. We should be renewed in our mind and led by Truth.

Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? To surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.  Romans 12:1-2

Life Happens

We can learn a lot from golf. Life is like that too. So many variables, not sure if we can finish well because there are so many unknowns.  Life happens, chips go long, we want to succeed but it just looks impossible. Yet, God knows we can do it. God meant for us to be right where we are. He has a plan. Because He would not put us in a position that He has not prepared us for. Look to Him instead of focusing on the frustrations. Yes, it can be frustrating that our life situations sometimes leaves us those really long putts. We need to remind ourselves that we are equipped by God, we can do it. We can finish this life season well.  Shake off the doubt, look deep inside your inner spiritual core, acknowledge God, and say Yes, I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me. Set yourself up to putt by being positioned in the right place, positioned underneath the Rulership of God’s love, and standing firmly on the Promises of God.

And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it! He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace. Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next. When you are half-hearted and wavering it leaves you unstable. Can you really expect to receive anything from the Lord when you’re in that condition? When you are half-hearted and wavering it leaves you unstable. Can you really expect to receive anything from the Lord when you’re in that condition? James (Jacob) 1:5-7

Shaped By God~I Can

You can also build up your confidence by rehearsing the past victories where You know God was with You, remembering those long putts that you did make, and thinking about the times how God empowered you and you did something you never thought you could do. Yes, when we have a really long putt in this life, we shouldn’t talk ourselves out of making it with our negative thoughts. You look at it and you think in your head “no way” that putt is never going in. We forget that we are shaped by God to do what He brings us to. He knows what is ahead, and purposefully so, we are ready for a time such as this, and we can trust Him to navigate us. Yes, I can. I can do it. In Christ, by the power of His Holy Spirit, I am ready, I have been equipped, I know He is with me. Let’s Do It. Let’s make the par.
