Age Gaps

Dear friends, I’ve dropped everything to write you about this life of salvation that we have in common. I have to write insisting—begging!—that you fight with everything you have in you for this faith entrusted to us as a gift to guard and cherish. Jude 1:3-4 Message

Fight The Good Fight Of Faith

This is our call, this is our God task, to fight with everything we have for the faith God entrusted to us as His gift to guard and cherish. I can’t believe how fast time has flown by, now I and my brothers and sisters are not the young adults of the family, we are the older adults. Many life seasons have come and gone and they have left behind with us valuable life experiences that translate into invaluable God wisdom for the next generation of adults in our family lives.

The Challenge Of Age

It is a challenge to stay relevant with the next generation of adults coming up in our family. We need to fight to keep the communication of love, knowledge, hope and relationship open wide, because this is the inflow of the God wisdom into their lives from those of us who have “grown through” many life seasons, in that God Adventure kind of way and have earned the respect and right to speak into their lives.

An Incredible Commonality

Always in each generation there is age gap. But, the most powerful bridge to that gap is Jesus. Jesus is our common denominator and what an incredible commonality, His life in us is. There isn’t a gap Jesus can’t bridge and age is included in this truth. The lawlessness of this era has created a gap between the ages that is hostile, chaotic and damaged civility between the generational gap. We should not lose hope, or pull away, retreat from relationship, Jesus is still the bridge and as we pray it up, He changes it up. We need to continue to be His Voice of truth.

1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone belittle you because you are young. Instead, show the faithful, young and old, an example of how to live: set the standard for how to talk, act, love, and be faithful and pure. The Voice

Respect Is A Two Way Street

The younger generation should be honoring and respecting their elders and the elder generation should be doing the same. Respect is never a one way street, in order for honor to be viable and strongly infused into our society, into the fabric of it’s civility, respect has to be a two way street, up and down the age brackets.

Don’t Be A Hermit

Isolation in that hermit kind of way, is now what our generation fights to keep at bay. We buy into the lie that we have nothing to say that the younger generation would want to hear. We think the wisdom we share falls on deaf ears, so why even try to reach out. God’s truth is effective and when spoken, it does not return void. We have to remember that we may carry the wisdom, speak the words, but Jesus, by the Power of His Holy Spirit, applies them. Success is not measured by the reaction or response, it is measured by the faithfulness to be actively involved in relationships where you can speak the truth and wisdom of God.

Undergirding Of Intercessors

Every generation has intercessors. Some of these intercessors are called at a young age and are lifelong intercessors, most of them are called in the “gray haired” days. We all had grandmothers and grandfathers who prayed for us, called our names out to God. It is invaluable for each generation to have this undergirding of intercessors. We are the intercessors, we are called Senior Citizens. We are in the life season where God calls us to a deeper intercession for the generation below us. We undergird the next up and coming generation with prayer, support, wisdom and encouragement.

For the Eternal watches over the righteous, and His ears are attuned to their prayers. He is always listening. The Voice Psalm 34:15

A Call Of Intercession

Many times, this season is known as a season of “rest”, we have worked hard all of our lives and now we get to retire. But to God in His Kingdom perspective we are not resting, we taking up the call of our life season, a call of intercession. My Father when he retired of many years of hard work, became an incredible prayer warrior for our family. He called all of our names out to God, every single day, praying for us, praying the Word for us.

Isaiah 54:2 “Make a large area for your tent. Spread out its curtains. Go ahead and make your tent wider. Make its ropes longer. Drive the stakes down deeper. NIRV

A Deeper Call

Every generation has had the hands of intercessors undergirding them in prayer. I am one of those intercessors. I have been gifted as an intercession throughout my life, but now it is profounder. God has taken a lot that has been on my plate off my plate and now He is adding something new, a deeper intercession for the next generation and for my family and extended family. If Jesus was not self-sacrificing, would we have been redeemed. We think it is our right to retire, it is, but it is not our right to drop out of service to God. In God’s Kingdom Perspective, there is no retirement, He is always doing something new in us no matter what our age is and He will always be stretching our tent pegs, asking for total access to our lives.

Pray It UP For Family

Holy Spirit, I pray my grandkids will know You and identify with You personally, in vital-vertical relationship with You. Draw each person in my family to You, Jesus by the power of Your Holy Spirit, cause them to come to You, to walk with You in Your ways, truth and life.
Father God, Advocate of all of us, put a hedge of angel protection around them, send Your warring angels to fight for their attention and make a way for true justice to break through every situation in their lives. I pray for Your Favor to reign in the lives of my family, Jesus. Spirit of truth light up their life-path today and may they choose You, Your life, Your Way, Your Truth from every moment into every choice they make. Speak what is true to their hearts, Spirit of the Living God, as they grapple with this society of topsy-turvy lawlessness and grow through an era where the culture is leaning away from all things God, and resisting the certainty of truth with false narrative and fake reality. On this day, wake each one of my family members up with thoughts of You, Jesus and by the Power and authority of Your Holy Spirit, cause my children and grandchildren, to know Your Love, to experience it, to be soul saturated with it. Jesus!
